Our Zero Carbon Reality: Housing

Saturday 23rd November, 10am – 1pm, Imperial Rooms, Matlock

Our Zero Carbon Reality: Housing is the first in a series of workshops hosted by Derbyshire Climate Coalition to support Derbyshire’s communities and councils in developing and implementing the evidence-based carbon reduction targets needed for effective local climate plans and to achieve a zero carbon society. The event will bring together experts and examples of best practice with councillors, council officers and grassroots groups.

How Councils can facilitate new zero carbon social and market homes
By Martin Valentine, Managing Director, Positive Homes Ltd.

Martin’s company has built super-energy efficient, sensibly priced homes across the region that generate more energy than they consume. He has previously worked for Nottingham City Homes and is passionate about building homes to the highest energy standards.

Deep Retrofit: Making Existing Housing ready for 2030 Zero Carbon Targets
By John Grant, Lecturer in Sustainable Construction and Climate Change, Sheffield Hallam University

John has a broad background in energy and town planning, with specialist knowledge on the adaptation and design of domestic dwellings for a changing environment, energy consumption within buildings and renewable energy. He teaches sustainable planning, environmental impact assessment and wider environmental issues.

How can/should the planning process facilitate zero carbon housing?
By Andrew Wood, Director, Stride Works
Andrew is a planning and sustainability consultant with a background in architecture. His work is mainly about shaping public policy from an environmental and social perspective; and he also gives advice on retrofitting buildings for energy performance.
